Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Halesworth.

The incident occurred at around 6.15pm on Saturday 2 September at the cemetery in Holton Road.

The victim –a woman in her 40s – was tending to a grave when a man grabbed her shoulder from behind and pulled her backwards. He had picked up a small knife the victim had taken with her to the grave, which he then scratched her right cheek with.

The victim managed to fight the suspect off and he then ran away towards the gate leading to Loam Pit Lane.

The suspect is described as white, aged around 30, 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and with mousy-coloured short straight hair. He was wearing light blue jeans, a black zip-through hooded top, black fingerless cycling gloves with a reflective strip, and black-framed aviator sunglasses with mirrored lenses.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about this incident, is asked to contact East CID at Lowestoft Police Station on 101 quoting reference 58322/17, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
