This
autumn Common Ground Theatre
are substantially touring Edgar Allan Poe's
The
Raven around near the coast and
not near the coast. We're looking at
the wonderfully intimate
Syleham and Wingfield
village hall on the 12th or perhaps the Halesworth
Cut on the 28th.

Nice
to see the world starting up again. Roughcast Theatre (of
the very excellent
Midsummer Night's Dream) present a rehearsed reading of
A Christmas Carol at the Fisher Theatre
Bungay tomorrow night and Wingfield Barns the weekend after.

We
saw
RoughCast Theatre's very
excellent A Midsummer
Night's Dream
this summer
and not least of all it looked
brilliant. Their next show
is the black comedy Arsenic
and Old Lace with an open
read through/informal casting at
the Barns 7:30pm Wednesday 20
November.

Very
sorry to hear that Common Ground Theatre have cancelled their
spring/summer tour of The Hound Within The Heart.
One of the not large cast has withdrawn because of a family
health crisis. We were planning to see Hound at
Barns:( The company's autumn
show will be
A Sidecar Named Despair!

Common Ground Theatre's tour
of
The Mariner around East Anglia ends this weekend,
Saturday they
are in the Syleham and Wingfield
village hall. For this tour East Anglia takes in
Chipping Ongar once one end of the Central Line. CG follow on with
The Scarlet Pipistrelle for Christmas.

In
the manner of the school playground as the audience arrives at
Romeo or Juliet they are asked to pick sides and wear
the appropriate tie, red for Capulet (Juliet) and blue for Montague
(Romeo). Sunday in the Barns by sheer
weight of numbers
the Capulets would have easily won a punch up.

We
first saw the Keeper's Daughter's Romeo and Juliet
crikey
seven years ago at Hartismere School Eye.
Like Dr Who it keeps regenerating and yesterday's
afternoon show at the Barns
had a
confident young cast who often played with the
expectation of what a play should be, we particularly
liked the audience
joining in with the dancing. No
doubt R&J will regenerate somewhere near you soonish ...
on our way home the Stradbroke Spar had
shelves that need to be filled.

At
the second attempt (the Beast from the East knacked the
preceding attempt) Alfie the Labrador pursues a theatrical career in
Once Upon a Labrador at the the

tonight. Next Saturday it's
Richard Digance with some chap called Eric. ♫

Not
surprisingly with this weather tomorrow's farmer's market at the
Snape Maltings cancelled
and Once Upon a Labrador at the Wingfield Barns
postponed to Saturday 5 May. But as of Tuesday Slice
of Life's four person
Comedy Night tomorrow is still happening unlike when the
Framlingham Crown
attempted a comedy night.

Radio

Huntingfield, Stowmarket,
Hoxne, Southwold and Wingfield.

We
attended our first
election hustings yesterday, it was in the Barns
and organised by the Country Landowners Association. There was pretty much
one of each flavour candidate but only Labour's Jack Abbot and the Green's
Rhodri Griffiths (he lives in Parham) standing in Central
Suffolk. To be honest we didn't stay long and during that
time the audience neither booed or cheered but it was nice to see some election
activity.

Last
night of The Keeper's Daughter's Dracula tour in
Debenham
tonight but thankfully it's likely to go out on the road around
near the coast again ... they do do a
fine job they do. It was a slightly unsettling experience
in the dressing room after the show in Wingfield last night seeing the cast out of make up, they're all younger
than you think.

British
artist Russell Coulson (on the far right) has lived
in Australia and this certainly shows in the colours at his first UK exhibition
running until Saturday 18th September at the Wingfield Barns. Perhaps most immediately engaging of his
work are portraits of the great and the good
... well the famous at least. He told us he tries to just do it
creating like a child does. Russell is giving workshops this week
explaining his techniques, contact 01379 384505 More pix

Not
particularly cold but one those winter days when it rains all
day and is dark at three for The Brewer and
NaTCH to visit this somewhat remote and recently reopened
pub. It has been made over in gastro pub style but still
has public/saloon bars, a surprisingly large restaurant at the
rear, friendly staff and draught Adnams, Adnams Explorer and
slightly over chilled Adnams Old which we still enjoyed ... soon
to have ESB beer. When we said we'd sit in the armchairs
the barman (landlord?) volunteered
Comfortable just like home. Not at all like
my house
The Brewer replied except neither of us have carpet.
AfAR
s from Hugh (in Dublin drinking that filthy Guinness stuff),
Spadge (collecting Lotus élan from Biggin Hill) and John B (who
won his case).
