♫ This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the first Aldeburgh Festival at the Snape Maltings.  To mark the golden anniversary this year's festival will open with the Britten opera A Midsummer Night's Dream as did the first festival at the Maltings.

Throwback Thursday:  Six years ago today Singout 2010 was looking for young composers with a view to a concert in the Snape Maltings.

Like we said everything is happening today 4 July, Wilby school summer fayre, Bedfield barn dance, the Rendham fete, the monthly farmers market at the Snape Maltings and Le Tour kicks off with a prologue time trial in Holland.  'Why's it called the Tour of France if it's in Holland?'  'Oh p*ss off!'

Not surprisingly no remaining free tickets for Friday's lunchtime Radio 3 concert at the Snape Maltings but in the evening and Woodbridge a Friends of the Earth Musical Soirée with party fare, how glamorous and just a pound to get in.

We saw comedy The Affair at the back of the Framlingham Castle Inn last year but since then it has got longer and a new cast including Dean Sore who was such a triumph as the maid in Sganarelle.  The show tours near the coast starting in Snape VH tomorrow and includes the Fram Station Saturday 9th May.

♫ The Snape Golden Key has an enormous car park and a monthly open mic night with a fish supper meal deal.  The next open mic is tomorrow night and will be hosted by Steve Lay and feature Frank Admiration and the Extraordinary Renditions.

Today the deliciously grumpy Will Self is part of the Brazilian festival running over the weekend at the Snape Maltings ... didn't know he had a brazilian.

Running until Thursday an Art Collective show fires up today at the Snape Maltings and tonight in the Peasenhall Assembly Hall the Kubrick String Quartet perform Britten and Mozart.

We would have liked to be at the Snape Maltings yesterday for the ♫singalong♫ Rocky Horror Show but we went to this in Oakham instead.

Admittedly a bit useless to tell you after the event but yesterday was the last day of Suffolk Exhibitions' Christmas show at the the Snape Maltings ... they'll be back in nearthecoast in the new year.

The Snape Maltings farmers' market is tomorrow this week and to avoid the satanic grip of trapped indoors for Christmas Save Stradbroke Library are hosting A Christmas Carol Tuesday in Stradbroke community centre.

For six years we thought we had seen the Old Glory Molly Dancers at a Framlingham Street Fayre but at the Snape Maltings Sunday we realised that had been the East Suffolk Morris Men.  Mind you we didn't get to see much mollying Sunday either as we arrived just as they took a break and then Daddy Christmas was spotted in the distance.  Old Glory are sufficiently intriguing, and just a little bit scary, that we will try again this Saturday night at either the Eastbridge Eel's Foot or the Aldringham Parrot and Punchbowl.

Fancy your chances on Strictly?  Don't reckon you'd live long with the Sidney Dance Group, can't believe how hard those dancers work.  The show has choreography that on occasion intentionally overwhelms you with the sheer complexity of what's happening on stage and there are curiously poignant computer graphics too.  Second and last show tonight at the Snape Maltings and then they move on to Barcelona.

We thought we didn't like Benjamin Britten's music but the dress rehearsal of his only comic opera Albert Herring at the Snape Maltings yesterday was a stunner.  Re-set in the 1950s it looked luscious, was actually funny and a bit sexy too.  A very real joy to sit just a few feet from eight operatic singers giving it some real welly ... very rock'n roll ... if not actually rock'n roll.  It's on all week SEE IT!

Tomorrow evening the Cassia String Quartet are playing Haydn and Kodaly in Rendham and there's drinks and a finger buffet too ...  alternatively the Trianon Orchestra have an interesting looking prog at the Snape Maltings including Carmina Burana.

At the Snape Proms last night Dennis Rollins Badbone Co jazz/funk six piece cranked it out with us particularly enjoying Mark Ellis' alto and the band's arrangement of Stephen Stills' Love The One You're With ... a bit of Bill Withers can't be bad either ... and on the way home we got excellent freebie leftover tuck from Anglian Events at the Campsea Ashe Dog and Duck.

Deben Inns whose pubs include the Snape Plough and Sail and the Pin Mill Butt and Oyster are re-opening the Melton Coach and Horses (no, not all their pubs have and in the name) and all staff WANTED.

Last Tuesday in Snape a woman was bitten by a sinuous dog ... yea, we thought that ... sinuous?

The Grain Brewery will be trialing it's new beer at the Snape farmer's market tomorrow and in the evening the Phoenix Singers present a concert of Mozart and Haydn in St Michael's Framlingham.

Lively at the Snape Maltings farmers' market Saturday; Fi had virtually sold out of Cornish pasties and the sweetie fella had a chilli chocolate with a 30 second delayed burn and a lemon fudge that took it away again.

The Old Glory Molly Dancers are at the Snape Maltings 12-3 this pm and Radio Stradboke's Christmas Countdown on air 10am-10pm.

We approve of that, mixed morris sides at the Snape Maltings on new year's day.
