After decades listening to the recorded trio from Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte heard it live at the Snape Maltings last night. It prompted a closing of the eyes and an impromptu sigh. Fell in l♥ve with mezzo Martha Jones for her singing, acting and very 1930s baggy trousers ... still a few seats for tonight.

Friday at the Snape Maltings a young boy went way out in the reeds to be the first greeting Daddy Christmas arriving on a sailing barge. When Santa came in sight we could see the boy's hat dashing about among the reeds and frantically waving hands. Very gratifying it meant so much to the youngster ... have a good one.

It was pretty windy for Daddy Christmas' arrival yesterday at the Snape Maltings, everybody including Santa and elves were hanging onto their hats. The word in the substantial queue to meet Santa in House & Garden was he will stay until the last child is seen, nice to hear.

What was a lovely sunny day yesterday turned into a sufficiently foggy night to make driving stressful enough that it limited the turn out for young Rendham artists Ania and Kasia Hobson's private view at the Quay Gallery Snape. They're there until Thursday and we rather liked the portrait of their brother Thom in a very natty suit.

We saw comedy The Affair at the back of the Framlingham Castle Inn last year but since then it has got longer and a new cast including Dean Sore who was such a triumph as the maid in Sganarelle. The show tours near the coast starting in Snape VH tomorrow and includes the Fram Station Saturday 9th May.

It was our first visit to the Great Glemham village hall Saturday for the Alde Valley Players Mistletoe & Wine. In the first half Katy sang beautifully to digital accompaniment, acapella quintet from SnapeFive in a Bar prompted toe tapping with a sleigh bell accompanied Christmas standard but the triumph of the half was Merry Berry cake baking assisted by a two litre bottle of vodka (from Waitrose of course). We l♥ved the conceit at the intermission that the food was dropped by the passing air ambulance (who were to benefit from the evening) and served elvishly in Christmas stockings to a full house.

♫ Neil Innes was in the audience at the Snape Maltings last night for the sold out Carolina Chocolate Drops. Though the man next to us was finding the not particularly strong jokes chokingly funny the four piece were impressively able musos and judging by Rhiannon Giddens' end of set dancing Ronnie Frost might not have got best newcomer if she'd been at Worlingworth.

For six years we thought we had seen the Old Glory Molly Dancers at a Framlingham Street Fayre but at the Snape Maltings Sunday we realised that had been the East Suffolk Morris Men. Mind you we didn't get to see much mollying Sunday either as we arrived just as they took a break and then Daddy Christmas was spotted in the distance. Old Glory are sufficiently intriguing, and just a little bit scary, that we will try again this Saturday night at either the Eastbridge Eel's Foot or the Aldringham Parrot and Punchbowl.

Fancy your chances on Strictly? Don't reckon you'd live long with the Sidney Dance Group, can't believe how hard those dancers work. The show has choreography that on occasion intentionally overwhelms you with the sheer complexity of what's happening on stage and there are curiously poignant computer graphics too. Second and last show tonight at the Snape Maltings and then they move on to Barcelona.

We thought we didn't like Benjamin Britten's music but the dress rehearsal of his only comic opera Albert Herring at the Snape Maltings yesterday was a stunner. Re-set in the 1950s it looked luscious, was actually funny and a bit sexy too. A very real joy to sit just a few feet from eight operatic singers giving it some real welly ... very rock'n roll ... if not actually rock'n roll. It's on all week SEE IT!

At the Snape Proms last night Dennis Rollins Badbone Co jazz/funk six piece cranked it out with us particularly enjoying Mark Ellis' alto and the band's arrangement of Stephen Stills' Love The One You're With ... a bit of Bill Withers can't be bad either ... and on the way home we got excellent freebie leftover tuck from Anglian Events at the Campsea AsheDog and Duck.
