Already looking forward to next year's.
fr 14 Jun 2013 | Blimey! Tomorrow's Wickham Market Primary School Summer Extravaganza includes a samba school, belly dancing, cricket and henna tattoos! We'll be there early snapping before moving on to do the same at the cycling festival on the Kingston Field in Woodbridge.
tu 11 Jun 2013 | Arriving back near the coast yesterday we did our shopping in the Wickham Market co-op ... it was so calm and unhurried compared with the Hackney Tescos near Chelmsford ... ahhhh (we thought) nice to be back ... on the back road to Easton we dodged two hatchbacked mums with hectic lifestyles and a flying post van ... Suffolk eh? (we thought).
sa 25 May 2013 | Looks like the Wickham Market George will be out of play for some time after that fire so no pub in the town, the old co-op is still TO LET as is Sweet Dreams on the corner of Broad Road and what was Seagers the hardware shop looks very sorry for itself with a net curtain in the window ... but still a chip shop, a cafe, two restaurants and the post office has an outside hole in the wall for cash which it never did when we lived there.

tu 18 Sep 2012 | This LNER (London and North Eastern Railway) price list shows that surprisingly (to us) in 1937 Wickham Market had markets on Mondays and Saturdays (return third class ticket from Darsham 1/6d, that's 7.5p). Rather less surprisingly a return ticket Wilby-Ipswich (markets Tuesdays and Saturdays then in Ipswich) was just over four shillings but still a little surprising that somewhere as small as Wilby ever had a station.

th 28 Jul 2011 | In Wickham Market the fish and chip restaurant, confusingly in the front of the No, you go down the side to get chips chippy, is now a bookshop and the B1438 (what used to be the A12) is closed on the north side of the square so buses have to go down Broad Road ... gets interesting at the hairpin right turn into Border Cot Lane.

th 1 Apr 2010 | Roundabout 1995 the pillarbox in the Wickham Market post office's car park moved from the far side to sensibly by the post office entrance. We were told the box had been on the other side because the house on that side had been the post office. This card posted in 1905 shows that at the beginning of the 20th century the PO was opposite The George.

tu 14 Oct 2008 | Burglary on the Wickham Market industrial estate Thursday night.
th 29 May 2008 | The Wickham Market Resource Centre is not as difficult to find as Radio Suffolk but it is a bit hidden away. We went there for a retinal scan yesterday and discovered it's a pleasantly straight forward, clean building with disabled access and a library stuffed with books, PCs, DVDs and talking books. The library is about eight times the size it was when in that flint stone shed across the road that is now the vets ... but it still doesn't seem to open that much.
we 30 Apr 2008 | The historic Harwich Electric Palace Cinema is a bit of a trek but worth the effort and at the end of next month it's showing Peter Hall's Akenfield. Made in 1974 the film was shot on location in villages west of Wickham Market and using local people as the cast.

It's a two minute egg timer to encourage proper teeth cleaning by children, but when you turn it upside down instead of sand falling from the top to the bottom the tiny green beads bubble up from the bottom to the top! To get one we had to lie and say it was for our niece, actually it wasn't lying, she will get it ... eventually. |
